The Sansom Street Community Coalition
Tree Planting - 17 April 2004
The pictorial record
Saturday, April 17, 2004 was another bright and sunny day and many neighbors and
community groups were out planting trees again!
Nine new "Snow Cloud" underwire-sized cherry trees were planted on the
4400 block of Sansom Street
Organized by the Sansom Street Community Coalition. Neighbors came out to help,
along with employees from New Horizon Housing and Travelers' Aid of
Philadelphia, and a student from Abington High School enthusiastically
fulfilling his community service requirement.

wheelbarrow full of mulch.
(Pictured at right): John Fenton of the UCD and Nick Levin loosen and spread the roots of
one of the container trees before planting.
Thanks for help that day go to the University City District, and to CORS for
watering the trees.
This project was supported by The Partnership CDC and the Spruce Hill Community
Association Block Improvement Grants. iCAP Realty Advisors, Marathon Design and
Construction and local developer Sam Hoy also provided assistance.
Next time you are walking in the neighborhood, be sure to take a stroll by
some of these lovely new trees.
Organizer Kate Stover and neighbors relax after the trees were planted.
